Empathy Urban Planning

Design, build and live

Our design for an inclusive community at Mackie's is respectful of Belfast's historic textures and aesthetic. The design integrates both private living spaces and communal areas. Green spaces around the river provide access to nature and open areas for urban farming. Our design insists on energy autonomy and protection against flooding. Our plans for the district are flexible so that design solutions can integrate the input of partners and community stakeholders. Voting is now closed!

The sustainable/landscaping components are pretty strong. However, the housing (super blocks) not so much. It seems there is more priority to amenities than houses.

Why so few votes! Interesting plan but the submission has more emphasis on the whole rather than homes, not a bad thing but the homes need more work.

I like this one. Why is no one else voting for it? It's lovely.

I love the street view with the homes all full of light through the windows. Our house is full of damp up in every corner and we never get any real natural light in the house. I would love my kids to grow up in a place like this where people worked together and helped each other out and the homes where a part of the community. Good luck. We need some new ideas

Innovation and comprehensively thought out spaces and places are beautifully presented. Well done!!

A lot of thought has gone into the sustainability elements of this plan- renewable energy, water recycling and the many urban farming ideas. Terracing the sides of the ravine & planting mixed crops there would be amazing. So much productivity out of a huge piece of urban land in public ownership that’s been derelict for decades- a sea change & a real marker down in terms of planning for climate change

I love the emphasise on sustainable permaculture practices.. Also the amount of space allowed for community gardening, food production and personal food production space is a big plus for me.. One of my favourites

I really like all the ideas about how to use our waste to heat homes and the solar ideas. We have nothing like this in Belfast. Why not! Brilliant
