Take Back the City campaigners gather at Mackie's

Over the summer, Take Back The City held a trailblazing competition, inviting architects and urban planners from all over the world to design a first-of-its-kind, climate resilient community at the Mackie’s site - the largest, vacant publicly owned site in Belfast. Click here for the full report.

We asked designers to imagine how this site might be transformed to help communities respond to the cost of living, housing and climate crises. The response has been outstanding and the final designs are now in.

We passionately believe that public participation should shape the City of the Future and we are now rolling out a series of initiatives to hear the views of as many people as possible to help pick a winning design.

21 - 23 October at The MAC – A three day exhibition of ‘My Dream Community’ -the artwork of local children alongside City of the Future designs. Starts 1pm Friday 21st October. 10 Exchange St West, Belfast, BT1 2NJ.

7 November 6pm - Forth Spring Intercommunity Group – Join the conversation at the Mackie’s site – 373 Springfield Road, Belfast, BT12 7DG.
22 November 1pm - Lessons From New York with Martin Dunn, CEO Dunn Development Corporation - Martin will share experiences of overcoming challenges and embracing opportunities to deliver over 3000 units of affordable housing in New York using innovative, inclusive and sustainable development models.
